Hardware Engineering - Mechanical Design Engineer


Overview

The Mechanical Design Engineer is part of the Hardware Engineering Team who designs, simulates, prototypes, and validates mechanical components for Labyrinth Technologies’ operating companies.


Duties + Responsibilities

Work Environment

  • Work on-site, full time, in an office environment in St Louis, MO
  • Report directly to the Director of Engineering, Hardware
  • Other interactions:
    • Work closely with the Product Manager on product engineering
    • Collaborate with engineers in the Mechanical Engineering team, as well as engineers in the Electrical Engineering and Software Engineering teams
    • Assist the Chief Technology Officer on research and new product development

Job Outcomes

  • Manage personal design timelines and prototyping budget
  • Design mechanical components of an interdisciplinary product that involves electrical and/or software engineering
  • Model parts with CAD software; and orderly maintain existing and inherited part designs and drawings
  • Conduct CFD and FEA simulation investigations, demonstrate proof of principles with experiments
  • Work with in-house prototyping and manufacturing equipment (i.e. 3D printer, CNC machine, laser cutter…)
  • Support business mechanical design review and evaluations

Qualifications + Skills

  • Position requires solid technical knowledge of Mechanical Design, CAD modeling, CFD and FEA simulation, and materials
  • Thorough understanding of the innovation lifecycle of a product, especially the design, simulation, prototype, and review processes
  • The ability to perform hands-on tasks during the design and prototyping processes
  • Good organizational skills
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and creative problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, teamwork skills
  • Background in basic manufacturing processes

Experience + Education

  • Minimum 3-year of industry experience in mechanical design and simulation
  • Prototyping and manufacturing experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant work experience in mechanical engineering design, modeling, simulation, and prototyping
